Questions&A
Wat is an acoustic wall panel?
Few interior finishes are as naturally sustainable. In addition to its sound-absorbing and calming qualities, wool is naturally flame-resistant. Its use can contribute to sustainable building strategies and may support projects working towards certifications such as LEED and BREEAM. The panels are also finished with upcycled wood, giving residual materials a second life.

For what spaces is the acoustic art suitable?
The acoustic wool art is made primarily from sheep’s wool sourced from the Netherlands and across Europe, combined with a sound-absorbing wool filling and a solid wooden frame. The wood is carefully selected for both its refined appearance and sustainable qualities, resulting in an artwork designed to last for many years.
Yes. Each acoustic artwork is carefully handcrafted in the VILD atelier on Texel. The wool artwork is created using traditional felting techniques. Felting panels of this size is a true craft, involving handwork, physical strength, water and soap. This hands-on process gives every piece its own unique character.
Sheep’s wool is highly effective as a sound-absorbing material. The wool artwork helps absorb mid and high frequencies, roughly between 250 and 20,000 Hz. This includes sounds such as voices, instruments and sharper noises like scraping and tapping. This sound-absorbing quality contributes to a warmer, more comfortable acoustic environment.
Wool naturally contains lanolin, a protective wax that helps preserve the wool fibers. Each artwork is carefully finished to help protect it against moths and dirt. To keep the panel looking its best, dust it regularly with a feather duster rather than a cloth, and avoid exposure to moisture. It is recommended to spray the artwork several times a year with an anti-moth spray. Caution: only an ALL-natural spray.

What sound do the acoustic artworks absorb?
The wool is sourced primarily from the Netherlands, with much of it coming from Texel, where the sheep live outdoors. The sheep are shorn once a year at the end of spring, providing a new fleece each season. Wool sourced from abroad, such as Merino, is carefully selected through a local wool shop on Texel.
An acoustic wall panel is a sound-absorbing panel designed to improve room acoustics and speech intelligibility. VILD Atelier specialises in artistic acoustic panels made from sheep’s wool.
The acoustic art is suitable for a wide range of spaces, including living rooms, offices, hotels, holiday homes, restaurants, studios and reception areas.
They are less suitable for humid environments such as bathrooms, saunas, unheated basements or garages, or for placement directly above a sink or cooktop. Wool is a natural material that absorbs moisture and may loose its shape when exposed to direct contact with water.
